FACTs (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) enable higher controllability in power grids by means of power electronic devices. Applications of the FACTs devices could increase the network delivering capability, reactive power compensation, voltage control, improvement of power quality and stability. The three key technologies are shunt compensation, series compensation and phase shifting transformers.

Shunt compensation is used in AC transmission as a form of voltage control. Conventional fixed shunts are widely deployed at all voltage levels and are capacitors or inductors connected in parallel with the network. Shunt reactors help to reduce voltage by absorbing reactive power.

Shunt capacitors help to raise voltage by injecting reactive power. Fixed shunts often provide a cost effective way to correct voltage.

Technological advances in power electronics have led to devices that can provide the benefits of fixed or switched shunts but with closer and faster control of reactive power. The two principal technologies are SVC (Static Var Compensators) and STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensation). These technologies have the following benefits:

STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator)

With an advanced voltage source inverter technology, Paktim provides the best solutions for improving the overall voltage stability, such as a fast compensation cycle (within 1 cycle) and space saving.

SVC (Static Var Compensator)

Paktim provides more stable voltage transmission through reactive power compensation employing Thyristor-based technology.

Shunt Capacitor & Reactor

Our capacitor and reactor uses the mechanical switch for compensating the reactive power in the power transmission lines; this is very effective for lines where steady state compensation is necessary.
