Integrated Protection and Control

IEC 61850, an international standard for the design of electrical substation automation, is referred as the integrated communications, protection and control solution. IEC 61850 (Communication networks and systems in substations) is for information models and information exchange for substation automation. It promotes interoperability between devices and application functions through standardized data models and information exchange.

Formal substation configuration language (SCL) is defined in IEC61850-6. It is based on modern Internet technologies and a set of standardized files that can be exchanged between tools. Four types of files are used for a substation project, namely:

• System Specification
• System Engineering
